Curriculum Management / Teaching Quality

The management team at Greenacres School has developed an effective structure for providing a balanced curriculum and for ensuring that the curriculum is appropriately implemented.  One of the features of our school is that all the detailed planning is done on a school wide basis.  This means that learning objectives are consistently determined across the school and that the work load is spread equitably among teachers and makes the best use of individual teacher strengths.

At the classroom level, teachers either use a standard planning form or adhere to closely defined guidelines which ensures that all the aspects of a successful unit plan are effectively addressed.

Our teachers demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm and professionalism and this is reflected in the excellent learning environment throughout the school.  Teachers have a sound knowledge of individual learning needs and strengths and tailor their programmes accordingly.

Our classroom environments are vibrant and educationally stimulating.  There are always extensive displays of art work, quality writing and outcomes of other curriculum programmes.

Reading Recovery

This is offered to all students who would benefit from a one to one approach to learning how to read and comprehend written text.  It gives a really big boost to reading skills.

ICT

With full integration into the curriculum students are given full exposure and guidance on a range of ICT technologies and in particular on multi media tools such as digital photography, videoing, web site publishing (to name a few)

Music, drama and dance opportunities

A show case of the arts is performed annually by way of the school production.  This brings together our music, drama and dance programmes in a community show case.

Sports

There are a number of school representative sports teams in sports such as hockey and netball.  There is also the opportunity for students to compete in many inter-Tawa sports fixtures and the possibility to go into inter-Wellington competitions.
